[Review] A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

*screams into the void for a good 5 minutes* *composes self*

All hail queen Victoria for creating such a wonderful and witty yet cunning cast of characters with a beautiful setting and magical elements which is rare to find in books

BUT THAT ENDING!?!?! MY PRECIOUS CINNAMON ROLL *insert name here* *spoilerly things here*

A Gathering of Shadows is probably the best second book in a series that I have ever read.

Four months have passed since the shadow stone fell into Kell’s possession. Four months since his path crossed with Delilah Bard. Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland’s dying body through the rift, and into Black London.

In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt. Restless, and having given up smuggling, Kell is visited by dreams of ominous magical events, waking only to think of Lila, who disappeared from the docks like she always meant to do. As Red London finalizes preparations for the Element Games—an extravagant international competition of magic, meant to entertain and keep healthy the ties between neighboring countries—a certain pirate ship draws closer, carrying old friends back into port.

But while Red London is caught up in the pageantry and thrills of the Games, another London is coming back to life, and those who were thought to be forever gone have returned. After all, a shadow that was gone in the night reappears in the morning, and so it seems Black London has risen again—meaning that another London must fall.

“Amazing, how quickly the magical became mundane; only months ago, she hadn’t known magic was real, and now she felt the urge to search for stranger things.”

This book is wonderful because of the amount of pages that was dedicated to Lila, along with many other aspects. But I loved every chapter Lila. I am inspired by Lila. I want to be as arrogant and sharp as Lila. I must make a request that their must be novellas or a spinoff about Lila. I would devour the series in a heartbeat.

"Death comes for us all, Brother. You cannot hide from it forever. We will die one day, you and I.”

“And that doesn’t frighten you?”

Rhy shrugged. “Not nearly as much as the idea of wasting a perfectly good life in fear of it.

I first must talk about my ships, Rhy and Kell. I will go down with this ship. But THAT ending will probably ruin everything. Oh and another ship just comes barging in without warning which will leave you speechless. *pun on the word ship

Okay this character came back and THAT CHARACTER is the reason that everything is ruined. This may be spoilerly but just be prepared for the ending. Actually I don't think there is a way to be prepared.

Aside from the characters, the writing is near perfection. The details, dialogue, setting, just everything is just imaginative and magical. The first half is a bit slow but that's understandable because it is a catch up on what has happened after book 1. Even though there wasn't much intense action compared to the first book, I was still captivated by everything.

Out of all the fantasy books I have read, I would want to live in this one the most. The setting is so realistic that the reader can imagine living in that setting.

And now it is bitter sweet agony till 2017.
