Interview with the author of Risen, Cole Gibsen!

About Risen:
Fans of Vampire Diaries and Twilight will be thirsting for this latest vampire addiction…

My aunt has been kidnapped by vampires, and it’s up to me to save her. Only…I had no idea vampires existed. None. Nada. I’m more of a reader than a fighter, and even though I’d been wishing to escape my boring existence in the middle of nowhere, I’d give anything to have it back now if it meant my aunt was safe.

Then there’s the vampire Sebastian, who seems slightly nicer than most of the bloodsuckers I’ve run into so far. Yes, he’s the hottest being I’ve ever come across, but there’s no way I can trust him. He swears he’s helping me get answers, but there’s more to his story. Now I’m a key pawn in a raging vampire war, and I need to pick the right ally.

But my chances of surviving this war are slim at best, when the side I choose might be the one that wants me dead the most.

Interview:
1) Are there any works of fiction that inspired you to write this novel?
I grew up obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I love the balance of lighthearted heroes with
truly evil/grusome monsters.

2) Who is your favorite character? Least favorite character?
This is the impossible question because of course I love all my characters. As a dog lover, though,
I have to give extra love to Jax, the German Shepherd. Even though he’s a dog, he has secrets of his own.

3) What was the hardest part about writing this novel?
Since there are so many vampire books on the market, the hard part for me was making sure I told
a story that has never been told before, with a vampire lore unlike any other.

4) Do you have a Spotify playlist or a Pinterest board for your novel?
Typically when I write I find music with words very distracting, so I’ll settle for dark, instrumental playlist.

5) Have you written any other novels? If so, what are they?
I’ve written everything from contemporary young adult to scorching hot new adult. I have to say,
however, paranormal young adult is where my heart has always been.

6) What is your favorite tv show?
I have so many! I’ve always been a comic book fan, so of course I’m obsessed with every show
set in the Marvel universe. My new guilty pleasure, however, is the Tick. The dialogue is fantastic.

7) What is your favorite book/series?
This is another impossible question because I have so many. I usually like to answer with the most recent thing I read, which was The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton. Talk about beautiful world building! I was immersed with every page.

8) Who/What inspired you to become an author?
Books were my saving grace when I was homeless and living out of my car. They provided me with an escape, and I became a writer so I could provide the same escape to others.

9) What other books are you writing?
I’m currently working on the sequel to RISEN. Lots of stuff to be revealed in this one.

10) Any advice for aspiring authors?
Theodore Roosevelt said that comparison is the thief of joy. We’re all on different paths, and
we’ll never reach or destination if we keep looking over our shoulders.
